Defense Technologies Inc. (DTI) opened its offices inside the Marlboro County Jetport with a special ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning, August 21. DTI is a veteran-owned private company with on-going research and development programs relative to current and future Department of Defense operations.

Cottingham Blvd. widening underway, state to pave 3 B’ville streets, other roads Posted - 08-26-2008
Bennettsville City Council learned Tuesday that widening of Cottingham Boulevard to a multi-lane highway is underway. City Administrator Max Alderman reported at last week’s council meeting that relocating the city’s electric lines is complete and contracts will be let next month for relocating water and sewer and natural gas lines along the highway.     See the print version or the online edition for the full story.
Stephens joins NRCS office as District Conservationist Posted - 08-26-2008
Frank Stephens calls his latest assignment, as District Conservationist in the Bennetts-ville field office of the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), a good fit. Maybe that’s because the move brought him closer to his Dillon County roots. Maybe it’s because he’s able to use his Clemson degree in agriculture mechanization and business, or because working with farmers every day reminds him of the time he spent on his own family farm. Bennettsville Primary School took a walk on the wild side Monday in welcoming students back to school. From leopard prints to hanging monkeys, exotic elephants to roaring lions, BPS made it well known they are “wild about learning” this new school year.

City electric rates rising Posted - 08-21-2008
Bennettsville City Council discussed a number of items of interest during their monthly meeting Tuesday night at city hall. Martha Whittaker of the S.C. Marlboro Academy's soccer match originally set for Tuesday against Emmanuel Baptist School has been cancelled. Emmanuel forfeited the game after the Dragons defeated them 5-0 last week.
Dragons split games in tourney Posted - 08-26-2008
The Marlboro Academy soccer team split a pair of matches in the Grayman Soccer Tournament at Pawleys Island last weekend. The Dragons dominated both games, outshooting their opponents by more than double in each contest. However, they had difficulty turning a majority of their shots into goals, which would come back to haunt them.

Dragons thrash Emmanuel Baptist in opener Posted - 08-21-2008
Marlboro Academy got the soccer season off to a solid start Tuesday by blasting Emmanuel Baptist School in Hartsville, 5-0. The Dragons dominated play from the outset but could not put the ball in the net until very late in the first half.

MCPRC still accepting soccer signups, hunting coaches Posted - 08-21-2008
The Marlboro County Parks and Recreation Commission has extended the signup period for fall youth soccer. The recreation department will still accept registrations in all age groups above the instructional league.
